Amazon announced on Tuesday that the series finale of The Boyswill debut in theaters the day before it arrives on the streaming service. Eric Kripke‘s dark superhero show, inspired by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comics series of the same name, has been building up to an explosive finish, as Homelander (Antony Starr) seizes control of America’s government and runs the country through a cadre of superpowered followers, leading to a series of dramatic character deaths. Amazon decided the season 5 finale episode, which will also wrap up the series’ five-season run, is big enough for theatrical screens: The episode will debut in theaters on May 19 before coming to Prime Video on May 20.
