Fallout fans left fuming after Amazon countdown reveal is most boring thing ever

A countdown for the Fallout TV show has turned out to be a massive disappointment, as fans continue to await a Fallout 3 remaster.

A remastered version of Fallout 3 is one of the worst kept secrets in gaming, after it was leaked in Microsoft documents years ago, but fans have been left waiting for an official announcement.

As such, any Fallout tease has drummed up anticipation for a potential reveal. This is what happened when a mysterious timer appeared on the website for Amazon’s Fallout TV show last month, which was counting down to today (February 4), the same day as the season two finale’s launch.

Many fans had convinced themselves that this would finally be the moment at which Fallout 3 Remastered would be announced, but it hasn’t been. In fact, the reveal is even more uninteresting than expected.

The Fallout website, operated by Amazon, features a number of widgets you can interact with to explore show locations. As such, the countdown simply opened up a new widget dedicated to a new show location: the penthouse suite in the Lucky 38 casino.

It might be neat for fans of the show, but for starved gamers who haven’t had a new title in the series since 2018’s Fallout 76, it’s a diabolical dance with their emotions.

‘The Fallout website countdown being a poorly made 3D walk around of Lucky 38 with behind the scenes and nothing else is the most Bethesda thing ever,’ one disgruntled fan wrote on X.

‘I guess the Fallout countdown had nothing to do with the games,’ another added. ‘Amazon is doing the IP perfectly, they even got everyone all excited over nothing. We’ll done Amazon!.’

Another wrote: ‘I know we all knew the countdown would be TV show related but I’m so sick to death of Bethesda using this tactic to bait Fallout fans.’

Despite the TV show’s massive success, Bethesda hasn’t released any new Fallout title to capitalise on its popularity. However, it did launch an update for Fallout 4 last year, and cut the price of all the old titles recently.

It’s unclear when Fallout 3 remastered will actually come out, but it isn’t the only Fallout title in the works.

Rumours suggest a remaster for Fallout: New Vegas is also on the way, while Bethesda is definitely working on Fallout 5 – but that won’t come out until after The Elder Scrolls 6, which still doesn’t have a release date.
