The past few days have been full of twists and turns regarding Sony’s alleged new DRM policy.
The Japanese company was initially accused of planning to apply a 30-day temporary license to games purchased via the PlayStation Store following the March update. Subsequently, the story shifted, first citing a manufacturer error, then a deliberate action, and finally the possibility of temporary DRM to counter piracy attempts.
At last, PlayStation decided to send a statement to GameSpot to clarify the situation. According to the company, nothing has changed, and only a single online verification is required to confirm a game’s license.
« Players can continue to access and play their purchased games as usual. A single online verification is required to confirm the game’s license, after which no further verification will be necessary. »
Unless Sony is hiding something, the incident appears to be resolved, and players shouldn’t worry about losing access to their games even without an internet connection.
