An official reveal for the long-rumoured Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake is finally scheduled for later this week.

For years now, it’s been rumoured that Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag would receive a full remake, and every piece of leaked info has only further corroborated its existence.

It’s not an exaggeration to say it’s one of the worst kept secrets in video game history, with Ubisoft only recently admitting to its existence and announcing a proper showcase this week.

Even so, like a particularly old boat, the leaks keep on coming as a Twitch drop that nets you an in-game reward has been shared early ahead of any formal statement from Ubisoft.

Yesterday, Ubisoft announced that it will be hosting a reveal showcase for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced via its YouTube and Twitch channels on Thursday, April 23 at 5pm BST.

According to streamers Higgs on X and D3ATHWISH on YouTube, anyone who watches the showcase on Twitch for at least 20 minutes will receive a unique pistol to use in the game when it launches.

The pistol in question is only described as the Rufino pistol, which is no doubt a reference to the character Rufino in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the newest entry in the series that came out last year.

No other streamers have commented on the Twitch drop nor has Ubisoft mentioned it on its own website, so it seems this info has been shared a bit early.

Ubisoft may not mind that much, though, as even it’s admitted that the Black Flag remake has long been public knowledge. The short trailer to advertise the showcase opens with the text, ‘gaming’s worst kept secret,’ while the Assassin’s Creed X account accompanies it with, ‘We know you know, but how about we tell you some more now?’

A snippet of a trailer and a couple of screenshots have also made their way online ahead of schedule, but they don’t reveal anything new and only demonstrate the improved graphics.

As it stands, this week’s showcase will likely just corroborate all the info that leaked beforehand. For instance, Black Flag Resynced reportedly won’t just see a graphical overhaul but feature gameplay adjustments too.

One report claimed that the remake will also incorporate roleplaying game elements, as seen in the more modern Assassin’s Creed games, and has cut out the unpopular modern-day sections.

This isn’t the only Assassin’s Creed remake to be in the works either, with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot saying in 2024 that the goal is to ‘have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly.’

As for the next wholly new entry, Assassin’s Creed Hexe (which looks to be themed around witches) hasn’t had a substantial update since its 2022 announcement and even lost its creative director two months ago.
