Square Enix has confirmed some information about Dragon Quest VII Reimagined on Switch. Those who purchase the title on this console will not be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version.
The publisher shared this tidbit in an FAQ published on the RPG’s Japanese website.
“No, no upgrade is currently available or planned. Please purchase your copy for the system you wish to play on.”
Furthermore, since the Switch 2 and Switch versions are treated as two different games, there will be no save data transfer either.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will be released on February 5, 2026, on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
