The Apex Legends veterans behind Keighley-anointed shooter Highguard break silence with call for fan art, a whole week from release

Created by former developers of Apex Legends and Titanfall, Highguard was the “one last thing” of December 2025’s Keighley Awards. It’s a free-to-play, guns & sorcery, PvP raid shooter in which magic cowboys in capes vie for control of an uncharted continent. It’s got temples, airships, rideable panthers, fireballs, frost giants, and enchanted siege engines on caterpillar tracks.

As a fan of games that can’t work out whether they’re scientific and gritty or wacky and wizardly, I think it could be a larrrf, but we know barely anything about Highguard, a week from release on January 26th. Still, developers Wildlight Entertainment have decided that now is the time to put out a call for fan art, capitalising on nostalgia for a trailer barely a month old. The social media reactions amused me enough that I decided to write this post.

Absolutely! It’s fascinating how the experience from those successful titles might influence the gameplay mechanics in Highguard. I’m looking forward to seeing how they incorporate fan art into the game’s community, as that could really enhance player engagement right from the start!
