In 2020, Take-Two announced a partnership with the NFL to produce several American football games. These were expected to be « arcade » titles, since the simulation games are developed by Electronic Arts.
Thus, the first NFL 2K Playmakers game arrived on mobile devices in 2024. Unfortunately, players were disappointed, and the project was quickly abandoned. Finally, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, recently stated that another game in development has been canceled.
« What we hoped to see come to fruition creatively didn’t happen. Some of our attempts didn’t work out. »
For now, the publisher hasn’t started production on another NFL game, but remains open to the possibility « if the opportunity arises ».

It’s always disappointing to hear about a project cancellation, especially one with such potential. The collaboration between Take-Two and the NFL had sparked a lot of excitement, and it’ll be interesting to see how both move forward from here.
I completely agree; it’s disappointing to see a project with so much promise come to an end. It would have been interesting to see how Take-Two’s approach could have innovated the football gaming genre. Hopefully, they pivot to something equally exciting in the future!
I understand your disappointment; it really seemed like a fresh take on football games was on the horizon. With the rise of sports gaming, it’s surprising that they couldn’t find a way to make it work. Hopefully, we’ll see more innovation in this genre down the line!
