Switch 2 price increase confirmed for UK but Nintendo won’t say what it is

Nintendo has announced a price hike on Switch 2 consoles worldwide, but it’ll be a few months before it comes into effect.

As some analysts predicted in light of the ongoing memory shortage, Nintendo is officially increasing the price of the Switch 2 worldwide.

As announced today (May 8), Nintendo is increasing the price of Switch 2 consoles in Japan, the US, Canada, and Europe, blaming ‘changes in market conditions’ and the ‘global business outlook’.

In the US and Canada, the base console’s price is going up by $50 to $499.99 and $679.99, respectively. In Europe, meanwhile, Switch 2 consoles will soon cost €499.99, a €30 increase from €469.99. These changes will come into effect from September 1, 2026.

At the time of writing, there isn’t a confirmed price for the UK. However, Nintendo has told Metro that the revised price in other European currencies ‘will be shared at a later date’ – so an increase is definitely happening.

Based on these increases, we estimate the UK price will jump to around £429.99, as the US hike matches the price of the Mario Kart World bundle in the region (the price of the bundle in Europe was €509.99, so that’s not a foolproof estimate). At the moment in the UK, the console costs £395.99.

While Western territories have a lot of time to pick up a Switch 2 before the increase, Japan isn’t so lucky. The Japanese-only console is going up ¥10,000 to ¥59,980 (£281) as of May 25, 2026. However, the price of the multi-language version will remain unchanged.

The price of the original Switch, across all models, is also going up in Japan. At the end of this month, the OLED model will cost ¥47,980 (£225), the standard version will be ¥43,980 (£206), while the Lite variant will cost ¥29,980 (£140).

Additionally, prices for Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions are going up in Japan as of July 1, 2026. You can find details of all the increases here, but the yearly membership is going from ¥2,400 to ¥3,000 (£14). Nintendo states price alterations for subscriptions are also planned for South Korea, but so far no Western territories are affected.

Nintendo Switch 2 price changes worldwide

  • US – $499.99 (up from $449.99)
  • Canada – $679.99 (up from $629.99)
  • Europe – €499.99 (up from €469.99)
  • Japan – ¥59,980 (up from ¥49,980)

‘We sincerely apologise for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding,’ a statement from Nintendo reads.

Along with these price changes, Nintendo has released updated sales figures across its consoles. The Switch 2 has now officially sold 19.86 million units, an increase of 2.49 million during the last quarter, while original Switch sales have jumped up 550,000 to 155.92 million.

While no one wants a price hike, these changes have been expected, with Sony and Microsoft both raising the price of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S over the past year.
