On May 2, 2023, a game called Redfall was released on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Developed by Arkane Austin (Prey, Dishonored), this new franchise plunges us into an island besieged by an army of vampires. Playing solo or in co-op, you must fend off the monsters using weapons and powers.
Unfortunately, the open-world FPS completely missed the mark due to too many bugs, a severe lack of polish, and a formula that was far too generic. Steam reviews are « mostly negative », and the peak number of concurrent players was only 6,124. As we write this, barely 10 users are playing Redfall via Valve’s platform.
This bitter failure led to the closure of Arkane Austin in May 2024. Redfall is now celebrating its third anniversary and might just have one final surprise in store for us. On X, insider Shpeshal Nick seems to be teasing something. In response to questions from users, he was quick to clarify that « it’s not what you think ». Good news or bad news? It’s still too early to tell, but we should know more next August.
