PlayStation Surprise Freebie Announced For Major Upcoming Release

PlayStation Surprise Freebie Announced For Major Upcoming Release

PlayStation gamers are getting a surprise free download for a major upcoming release that launches next month.

Originally developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the moment Little Nightmares launched in 2017, it became one of my favourite horror games of all time.

Played in a 2.5D perspective, Little Nightmares combined platforming gameplay, fun puzzles and oozed so much unnerving aura; it would surely send shivers down the spines of Stephen King, Wes Craven and Clive Barker (maybe).

I can’t say much else, because I’d hate to spoil Little Nightmares for you, if you haven’t already played it. However, it has one of the best concluding plot twists I’ve ever experienced in a video game.

Tarsier Studios would then return with its long-awaited sequel in 2021 with Little Nightmares II, which built upon its predecessor in almost every way, and it also has one of the most horrific creatures you’ll ever encounter with ā€˜The Teacher’, but I’ll say no more.

Unlike the first game, which had Six as the main playable character, Little Nightmares II had two main characters, with the returning Six, who is joined by Mono.

However, my main issue with Little Nightmares II is that it never had a co-op option, which felt like a very natural fit for the game. An issue that will be corrected in Little Nightmares III (now developed by The Dark Pictures studio, Supermassive Games), which has optional co-op.

ā€œYou play as Low and Alone, best friends ever since they found each other in this lonely nightmare. They each possess their own iconic item: a bow for Low and a wrench for Alone,ā€ reads the synopsis of the game. ā€œWorking together, they’ve become adept at sneaking through hidden passages, hoisting each other over massive obstacles, and watching each other’s backs.ā€

If you can’t wait for the release of Little Nightmares III, as spotted by a Reddit user, Thegoodgamer32, in a developer video on YouTube, a public demo was mentioned, and it arrives next week on Wednesday, 17 September. Presumably, it will be available on all platforms.

ā€œExcellent,ā€ said Froz3nP1nky, who may or may not have been twiddling their fingers like Mr Burns from The Simpsons.

ā€œI hope it can be played with multiplayer,ā€ replied Ferret. I’d be very surprised if the demo wasn’t two-player co-op like the main game.

Bandai Namco Entertainment is yet to officially announce the free playable demo on its other social media channels, but I’m sure that announcement will happen in the coming days.

Little Nightmares III will be released on 9 October 2025 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
