PlayStation has decided to close Bluepoint Games (Demon’s Souls, Shadow of the Colossus)

Another bombshell has hit the video game industry! Bloomberg has announced that PlayStation has decided to close one of its studios.

The studio in question is Bluepoint Games, the team responsible for the remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls. The American company had not released any games since the new version of FromSoftware’s title in 2020, for the launch of the PS5.

As a result, around 70 employees will lose their jobs. The decision was made “following a recent business review”. A PlayStation spokesperson said the following in a statement:

“”Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship.”

Founded in 2006 in Austin and acquired by Sony in 2021, Bluepoint Games also participated in the development of God of War Ragnarok. The studio then embarked on a God of War GAAS that was ultimately canceled in January 2025. Following the cancellation, the Japanese manufacturer promised to help the developers find another viable project. Unfortunately, the initiative ended in failure.
