Octopath Traveler is known for its unique cast of characters and interesting game mechanics, and Octopath Traveler 0 is giving players a small taste of whatâs to come.
In a press release, Square Enix introduced some of the new characters players would be joining on their adventure and announced who would be the main antagonist of the new game. Set on the continent of
Orsterra, the world of the original Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler 0, is a story of revenge and restoration surrounding the divine rings.

First is the gameâs central antagonistâthe self-proclaimed âRuler of All,â Pardis III. The absolute monarch who rules the Kingdom of Edoras, with Wealth, Power, and Fame all at his command. His insatiable greed knows no bounds, as he initiates an invasion to seize Orsterra in its entirety. It will be up to the playerâThe Ringbearer Chosenâto put an end to his terrible ambitions; thankfully, they have help.
Some of the characters the player will be joined by include: Pius, a bishop of the Order of the Sacred Flame and a distant relative of the protagonistâs mother (voiced by Todd Haberkorn), Saoirse, a traveling dancer seeking a partner who can share her sensibilities and can join her on stage (voiced by Brianna Knickerbocker); Carinda, a merchant who uses her warmth and kindness alongside her keen buisness sense (voiced by Erica Mendez); and Xerc, a scholar researching soulstones (voiced by Adam
Korenman).

Square Enix also shared details on some of the buildings players will be able to construct within their towns during their adventure. Thereâs the âMonster Arena,â where players will unlock the monster âCapture Listâ and âArena Matches.â By fulfilling various capture requests and battling monsters, players will be able to earn several different rewards.
Alongside this, there is âThe Museum,â where players can listen to the music of Octopath Traveler 0 obtained throughout their adventure, revisit previous experiences through âjournals,â and display âTreasures of Legend,â which are rumoured to lie dormant in hidden locations throughout the world. Players can also use the music tracks to customize the BGM of their town.

Octopath Traveler 0 will also allow players to access bonuses if they have save data from not only previous Octopath Traveler games, but also other Square Enix titles such as Bravely Default Flying Fairy Remaster, Dragon Quest I & II HD 2D Remake, as well as Dragon Quest III HD 2D Remake. Save data from previous Octopath Traveler games will give players two statues to place in their townâthe Blue Cait statue, which gives players an EXP and Leaf boost, and the Blue Octopuff statue, which slightly increases JP.
Octopath Traveller 0 will be available for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4th, 2025, with the standard edition costing $49.99, the Digital Deluxe Edition costing $59.99, and the Collectorâs Edition costing $229.99.
