Nintendo is indeed working on a Switch 2 model with a replaceable battery for Europe

Starting February 18, 2027, manufacturers will be subject to new European Union legislation requiring products with built-in batteries to make them easily removable and replaceable.

Of course, the video game industry will also be affected, and Nintendo has already announced its intention to comply with this requirement. To do so, the Japanese manufacturer will release a revised version of the Switch 2 in Europe. This model will therefore feature a replaceable battery.

In its document, the company refers to “current products with model numbers starting with ‘BEE'”. The Switch 2, meanwhile, has the model number BEE-001. Furthermore, since the Joy-Con 2 and the Switch 2 Pro Controller bear the model numbers BEE-012 and BEE-014, respectively, these peripherals could also receive new models.

Nintendo states that it is “mplementing measures to comply with these requirements by preparing versions of products to meet the Regulation”.
