Now available for a month, Marathon has built up a small community that it is struggling to retain on its servers. In an article published by Forbes, journalist Paul Tassi provided an update on the game’s status since its launch.
First, he reveals that the budget allocated to the development of Marathon exceeds $200 million and could even be over $250 million. He adds that 70% of players are on PC, with an average playtime of 28 hours. It’s worth noting that 22% of users have played for more than 50 hours and 7% for more than 100 hours.
Marathon recorded a peak of 25,392 concurrent players on Steam over the past 24 hours. This is far from the record of 88,337 players recorded at launch. Bungie’s title ranks 77th in the daily active players ranking on Valve’s platform.

It’s interesting to see how Marathon is managing such a significant budget while trying to grow its community. Building and retaining a loyal following can be quite a challenge, and it’s great to see the efforts being made. Looking forward to seeing how things develop!
