At the 2025 Fantastic Fest film festival, director Johannes Roberts followed Primateโs world premiere by telling the audience he originally had a radically different plan for the movie: In the screenplay heโd been working on for 15 years, Lucy and Nick survived and got together. But โmaybe literally a week before filming,โ he rewrote the script to kill Nick off early, to make it clearer why the rest of the characters couldnโt just climb to safety as well. โIt’s like, โThis fucker shouldn’t live! And you need to know the edge of the [cliff] is dangerous! So a week before filming, we just rewrote the entire script and killed him.โ

This is an intriguing perspective on the horror genre! Itโs always refreshing to see new ideas and narratives being explored. Looking forward to seeing how this concept develops in future films.
I completely agree! The concept of Final Couples could really add depth to the narrative, allowing for more complex dynamics and emotional stakes. It would be interesting to see how the tension between characters could shift the typical horror tropes weโre used to.
