PlayStation announced that it will be raising the price of PlayStation Plus. Predictably, reactions to the news for the sudden price hike have been negative.
What is the new PlayStation Plus price?
Starting May 20, 2026, PlayStation is raising the price of PS Plus for new customers. In a statement that blames āongoing market conditionsā for the reason, PlayStation notes the new prices will be $10.99 USD / ā¬9.99 EUR / Ā£7.99 GBP for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD / ā¬27.99 EUR / Ā£21.99 GBP for three-month subscriptions.
PlayStation says the price change doesnāt apply to current subscribers unless they lapse in their subscription or change it in any way.
Unsurprisingly, reactions to the news have been negative. Fans immediately questioned the move, with some calling it āinsaneā to blame market conditions. Others brought up Xboxās recent moves to trim down the price of its Game Pass services.
āAt some point āmarket conditionsā just becomes the industry version of ābecause we can,’ā wrote one angry reply. āHow THE Fā does an online service go up due to āongoing market conditionsā What exactly does that mean? Thereās a short supply of subscriptions to give out? What the fā?ā asked another, while one person noted, āBlaming market conditions is insane. It should be free to play online games without paywalls in 2026.ā
Others noted that this new increase came less than a year after PlayStation also raised prices on year-long subscriptions in mid-2025. PlayStation hasnāt commented on the negative reaction as of yet, and even though itās unlikely they will, fans as a whole seem to be extremely unhappy with the news.
