Announced almost unexpectedly at Summer Game Fest 2026, Guild Wars 3 will be released on PS5 and PC soon. A beta will take place in the fall of 2027.
The teams at ArenaNet still have plenty of time to showcase their MMORPG. In a post on the game’s official website, CEO Colin Johanson outlined his philosophy for Guild Wars 3.
As with its two predecessors, this third installment will not require a subscription to play. Players will simply need to purchase the game to enjoy its content. Battle Passes and seasonal content will also be absent. Only paid expansions will be released after launch.
Furthermore, Guild Wars 3 will not go for a pay-to-win model. Microtransactions will be limited to cosmetic items. The developers will also ensure that “time spent in the game is rewarding” to avoid players having to spend hours organizing their inventory or preparing for a mission. MMOs should no longer feel like a “second job” that eats into players’ free time.
Finally, it’s been clarified that Guild Wars 3 will be a standalone game very different from the previous two installments. Players can expect a revamped gameplay experience and an entirely new story.
