I’m a big fan of the FMV games of yore β there’s just something I find oddly charming about them. Using video footage of real people as opposed to animated cutscenes allowed developers to tell stories with complex (and admittedly, often hilarious) narratives, even if they didn’t have the skills, funds, or time to create and animate character models. Full-motion video also allowed for more realism at a time when the photorealistic graphics we take for granted today were still decades out of reach.

It’s great to see appreciation for FMV games like Night Trap! They certainly have a unique charm that sets them apart from other genres. Nostalgia plays a big role in their appeal, and it’s interesting to explore how they’ve influenced gaming today. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Absolutely, they really do have a distinctive appeal! Night Trap’s blend of live-action footage and interactive storytelling was ahead of its time, paving the way for more narrative-driven games today. It’s interesting to see how that style has influenced modern gaming as well.
