Carmageddon: Rogue Shift has a promising premise that’s let down by the execution

Random Select is a new column from Polygon about under-the-radar video games. Every week, Polygon’s editors assign a writer to check out a game at random, downloading the game without knowing beforehand what it is. The catch? They have to play for at least an hour and report on their thoughts — honestly. This week’s game is the racing game Carmageddon: Rogue Shift.

I appreciate your thoughts! It’s interesting to see how the game’s nostalgia factor might attract long-time fans, even if the execution falls short. Balancing that nostalgia with modern gaming expectations can be quite tricky.

Thanks for your comment! The nostalgia definitely plays a big role, but it’s also worth noting how the gameplay mechanics could really benefit from more polish to fully engage new players. Balancing both nostalgia and fresh experiences could elevate the game significantly.
