Developer Serafini Productions has announced a new entry its first-person horror series BrokenLore. Dubbed BrokenLore: Ascend, the title will once more showcase the studio’s penchant of tackling difficult subjects through its psychological horror trappings. The title was announced with a trailer, which you can check out below.
BrokenLore: Ascend will have players experience the story of a pair of rooftop climbers – Ren and Yui – who decide to climb the seemingly-cursed Tokyo Tower only to encounter the yokai Rokurokubi – a yokai known for its ability to stretch its neck to incredible lengths. The story of the title will revolve around Ren and Yui making a new video for their channel, SKYLIMIT, which also ends up feeding into their desire to take on more dangerous challenges.
While Rokurokubi on its own might only be a single entity, the yokai also ends up embodying the deepest fears of the two protagonists, which have been described as “the terror of being forgotten, of becoming ordinary, invisible, irrelevant.” Along with the franchise’s first-person gameplay, BrokenLore: Ascend also introduces new climbing-based gameplay elements which will also likely feed into what kind of horrors players can expect to face.
BrokenLore: Ascend doesn’t yet have a release date. The title is confirmed to be in development for PC and PS5.
