Bloodborne Remastered is Yours, Modders Make it Free to Download

Even though Sony seemingly isn’t planning on remastering it any time soon, we can still get our hands on Bloodborne “Remastered”… you just won’t be able to use a PlayStation to play it.

Has Sony forgotten Bloodborne exists? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to remaster or remake it in the near future.

Even though fans have been clamouring for some kind of follow-up to FromSoftware’s 2015 PlayStation 4-exclusive Soulslike for over a decade at this point, Sony seems oddly intent on ignoring that it exists for some reason.

Why? Your guess is as good as mine, to be honest. It’s likely to do with the fact that they’d want FromSoftware to come back and develop either a sequel or a remaster, but that’s really the closest thing we have to a reason at this point in time.

FromSoftware has obviously been more than a little busy since they first released Bloodborne, having developed bangers like Dark Souls III, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, and, of course, Elden Ring.

Still, Bloodborne was, by all accounts, a big hit, so I’m sure that Sony could have easily thrown a massive lump sum FromSoftware’s way in the last decade to get them to work on a follow-up.

After all, it would seem Nintendo did exactly that a few years back, if the impending release of the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title The Duskbloods is anything to go by.

This is all a very roundabout way of saying that Sony seems weirdly disinterested in working on anything Bloodborne-shaped, so we’ll have to rely on the community if we want our Bloodborne Remastered desires to take shape.

Oh, hey, would you look at that– it seems someone has heard our cries, because a brand new mod titled Bloodborne Remake recently went live over on Nexus Mods.

While the mod may be titled “Bloodborne Remake”, the banner image on the mod page seems to be more apt, as it’s referring to mod as “Bloodborne Remastered”.

So, what does the mod offer, exactly? As mod author Specialfist94 explains, Bloodborne Remake is a reshader mod for Bloodborne that “will remove the grey, washed out colours of the vanilla game, add fog and atmosphere without over saturating or adding unnecessary effects so it still feels the same, giving you the full intended definitive Bloodborne experience”

Personally, I think “remaster” might be stretching it a little here (and “remake” definitely is pushing things), but I have to admit that it does look pretty impressive.

It’s not quite perfect, however, based on the screenshots and gameplay videos of the mod. The fog effect seems a touch too harsh for my liking, and some of the UI elements don’t perfectly blend together with the new reshade– but overall, those are just nitpicks.

Unfortunately, you’re out of luck if you want to get this to run on a PlayStation.

While some Bloodborne mods do work on modded PlayStations consoles, this doesn’t appear to be one of them, so you’ll have to make do with playing it on a PC emulator for now (with a legally obtained copy of the game, of course).
