The Switch 2 version of Overwatch is a catastrophe in terms of optimization

This week, Overwatch came to Switch 2 alongside Season 2. On paper, this is excellent news, as the competitive FPS is now optimized for Nintendo’s latest console.

On the Switch 2, the game is supposed to run at 60 FPS in both TV and handheld modes. However, recent reports point to significant technical issues. Overwatch suffers from severe frame rate drops on the Switch 2 and is sometimes capped at 30 FPS in certain situations. Blizzard has acknowledged these issues.

“We are aware of issue with Nintendo Switch 2 performance, which is lower than normal. We are currently working on a patch to resolve this.”

A patch should therefore be released soon.

It’s interesting to see the launch of Overwatch on Switch 2, but it’s unfortunate to hear about the optimization issues. Hopefully, the developers can address these concerns and enhance the gaming experience for everyone.

You’re right; adapting games for new hardware is no small feat. It’s interesting to see how performance can vary so widely between platforms, especially with a title as complex as Overwatch. Hopefully, the developers can address these issues in future updates to enhance the experience for Switch 2 players.
