Zelda Meets Final Fantasy In New RPG You Can Try Free Now

The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy fans might want to check out this promising new RPG for free.

When you mention some of the biggest franchises in the ever-popular RPG genre, perhaps two names at the top of that list would be Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy.

Both The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy have been around since the 1980s, which just goes to show how popular these franchises are, and are arguably more popular today than they ever were.

When The Legend of Zelda was released on the NES in 1986, it set a standard of what fans and the industry expect from an RPG, whether it’s gameplay, storytelling, visuals, music and everything else in between.

The same can be said for when Final Fantasy was released on the NES two years later. However, rather than having real-time combat, Final Fantasy is turn-based with more of a strategic element. That concept, at least for the most part, remains to this day.

That being said, if you’re on the hunt for a game that blends classic The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy in a brand new release, then you might want to check out this new RPG.

The game in question is called Alabaster Dawn, developed and published by the indie studio Radical Fish Games, and its free playable demo is available to download now via Steam.

Judging by its gameplay trailer, it looks to have old-school Zelda-inspired combat with a visual presentation of what the original Final Fantasy might look like today.

“Alabaster Dawn is an Action RPG, featuring a deep and engaging combat system, challenging puzzles and an epic story set in a curious world full of secrets to discover and places to explore,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“The shadow of Nyx has fallen, warping the world into a wasteland and vanishing the gods and their people. Now, Juno, the Outcast Chosen, awakens to an impossible task: bring it all back.”

The demo is said to be around 90 to 150 minutes long, has two melee and two ranged weapons to try, nine enemy types and four bosses. What’s more, your save progress will carry over to the full game.

At the time of writing, Alabaster Dawn does not have a release date, so be sure to add it to your Steam wishlist to be notified when that information drops.
