As part of the next big update for Starfield, Bethesda has announced that their latest RPG adventure will also launch for PlayStation 5 on 7th April.
Starfield will arrive on PS5 with all of the quality of life improvements made since 2023, as well as the brand new Free Lanes update, which introduces the ability to fly between planets in a system using Cruise Mode, and not just jump from one play space to another. The update also brings further endgame upgrades with X-Tech, more Outpost options, two new companions, a new Moon Jumper vehicle and more.
The new pricing for the game will be set at $49.99 for the base edition of the game across PS5, Xbox Series and PC, and $69.99 for the Premium Edition, which includes the Shattered Space from 2024, and the new Terran Armada expansion, also launching on 7th April.
You can expect the PS5 version to be a match for the experience on Xbox Series X, give or take a few technical details, but Bethesda is integrating DualSense specific features for the lightbar, adaptive triggers, touchpad and all the rest. If you’re playing on PlayStation 5 Pro, then a new Pro Performance Mode will allow players to pick between a higher target frame rate or a Pro Visual Mode.
This could be seen as a chance at redemption for the less loved Bethesda RPG. At launch, Starfield was criticised for not realising the dream of a star-hopping adventure, with repetitive generated planet spaces outside of the main destination cities, and for the fact that navigating the stars felt more like a fast travel festival, impacting the ebb and flow of the narrative structure. One correction for this was the Shattered Space DLC, which promised more classical Bethesda storytelling within a single location, while Free Lanes and Terran Armada look to expand the sci fi fantasy. Bringing the game to PS5 will also open it up to a larger audience.
