Inconsistent download speeds are often cited as one of the main shortcomings of the XBOX ecosystem, and could soon be a thing of the past.
The American company has announced that it is working to improve download speeds across its entire network. This will begin with XBOX Alpha Skip-Ahead users in the XBOX Insider program.
A client will check server availability in real time to select the fastest one.
“Users will experience a new feature to optimize game install and update speeds by introducing a smart download client. Shortly after your game download begins, the client will check which content servers are available for the install or update. It will then test the connection speed to each server pool and select the fastest available connection for that install. The speed test will rerun periodically during the install or update to ensure that the client continues using the fastest available connection.”
Improvements will also be made to overall stability and performance.
