New details on the next generation of the Xbox console will headline the first Xbox Game Dev Update showcase later today.
A new Xbox showcase, the Xbox Game Dev Update, starts today and aims to “bring highlights directly from the teams building Xbox.” Its first episode will air at 12:00 p.m. ET, with the major highlight being new details on Project Helix, the codename for Xbox’s next-gen console, introduced by Xbox General Manager Chris Charla and Vice President of Next Generation Jason Ronald.
We currently have only a few slim details on Project Helix, as development was teased back in March, but a major feature will be the ability to play PC games, similar to the ROG Ally. We also know the console will be powered by an AMD SoC (system-on-chip) and co-designed for the next generation of DirectX for greater rendering.
Senior Director of Xbox Ecosystem Marketing Bryce Baer said, “Project Helix will create new opportunities for you to optimize build workflows, improve performance, and iterate more efficiently. Xbox is building for what’s next, and we’re inviting you to join us on that journey.”
Other topics on the Game Dev Update itinerary are a section on the newest Xbox Developer Tools, a deep dive on DirectX’s DirectStorage, new user interface features for Xbox Marketplace, and highlights from Xbox’s time at the 2026 Game Developers Conference in March. With Xbox’s CEO recently changing to Asha Sharma, we will see the direction this new leader takes Xbox as they work towards releasing their next console.
As this is a developer-focused show, there likely won’t be much news about new or arriving games, but the next major Xbox Games Showcase will take place on June 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET as part of Summer Game Fest.
