These past few days, Microsoft has made headlines for its policy regarding the restoration of hacked XBOX accounts. Until now, the company simply refused to return the accounts in question to their owners. This resulted in the loss of all purchased games and, in some cases, even files stored via OneDrive.
Outrage spread on social media after a content creator who had fallen victim to this system spoke out. On X, Joshua Khane’s post has been viewed more than five million times and has received over 4,000 comments. XBOX couldn’t ignore this and committed to returning the compromised account to its owner.
Now, XBOX Support is inviting all affected users to reach out to its teams to resolve an account recovery issue. Recall that in its initial email, Microsoft described the account suspension process as “irreversible”. Of course, this is apparently no longer the case. Players have welcomed this change in stance.
“Everyone we responded to should have a DM from us with next steps, just reply there and we’ll continue from where we left off. If you’re also dealing with this account recovery issue, our DMs are open, reach out and we’ll help as quickly as possible. We’re here.”
