Xbox Games Showcase Won’t Feature Project Helix or Strategy Talk, Confirms Matt Booty

Following Fable’s delay announcement, XBOX released a new podcast with chief content officer Matt Booty to discuss a range of topics, including some teases for the June 7th showcase. While he didn’t divulge much, aside from confirming that Gears of War: E-Day looks good, he confirmed what wouldn’t show up: Project Helix, the next-gen XBOX console.

Booty also confirmed that the company would be focusing on “the teams and the games,” and such, “This is not going to be a place where we’re going to talk about strategy broadly. There are certainly some strategic things that are out there and things we want to bring clarity to,” he said, doubtless referring to the reports about first-party exclusivity.

“But the focus here is on the games. For the long term, we want to make the right decisions, not fast decisions. And I can also say that there won’t be Helix news. So Helix will not be in this showcase. Again, we want to get everything about that right. So we’re really focused on the games now.”

Considering the ongoing memory supply issues, it’s somewhat understandable, but you can’t fault XBOX for setting expectations accordingly before the show. Granted, we don’t know all the other games that will appear, but Halo: Campaign Evolved is a safe bet, especially with its rumored launch next month.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is confirmed, with a look at the returning DMZ mode. Otherwise, the field is open to showcasing the likes of Clockwork Revolution, State of Decay 3, and more.

The Xbox Games Showcase is set for June 7th and will be immediately followed by the Gears of War: E-Day Direct, which will reveal new gameplay (and likely a release date). Of course, that’s not the only showcase in the coming days, what with State of Play on June 2nd, Summer Game Fest on June 5th, the Future Games Show Summer Showcase on June 6th and the PC Gaming Show on June 7th.
