Red Dead Redemption 2 fans discuss that this sequel might not be what everyone says it is.
In my opinion, 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the greatest video games of all time, and I’d say the same about its 2010 predecessor, starring John Marston.
If I were asked which is my favourite out of the two, I’d need a long think about it. If push comes to shove, I’d probably lean slightly towards the 2018 game starring Arthur Morgan.
That being said, at the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with either Red Dead Redemption title, because each is a prime example of Rockstar Games’ finest work.
The topic of Red Dead Redemption 2, in particular, has been a discussion with fans on Reddit. “What are y’all’s hottest RDR2 takes?” asked OGAnimeGokuSolos.
“Hot take, there is zero point in having a single player DLC,” they continued. “RDR2 is a complete game. Not every art needs a DLC or sequel, you’re just asking for too much”
Fellow Red Dead Redemption 2 fans were keen to chime in
“Red Dead Redemption 2 too often sacrifices functionality in pursuit of realism,” replied Gamamaster101.
“This.. While RDR2 may be a near-perfect game, Red Dead Redemption 1 has higher replayability since it’s not tedious like RDR2, added DonMurray1.
“Bonnie McFarland is honestly probably my favourite NPC in either RDR game,” said TrashCanBangerFan. “Her banter with John in those early missions completely makes up for how dull the missions themselves are, in my opinion.”
One of the most talked about story beats of Red Dead Redemption 2 is the “Blackwater Massacre”, a bank heist gone wrong with the Dutch van der Linde Gang.
Not much is known about this incident, which is why many fans have suggested it should be explored in DLC or even a new game, but this Redditor thinks differently.
“We don’t need a prequel or DLC telling us what actually happened in Blackwater. The fact that we never saw it helps create the crack that devolves the relationships for all the characters,” explained SolidPeaks.
I guess whatever you may or may not think about either Red Dead Redemption game, the fact that we’re still talking about them today is an example of why they are both great games.
The original Red Dead Redemption is playable on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. While its sequel is available on all the above, apart from the Nintendo console. For now, at least.
