Valve is reportedly working on a customized version of FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution 4) for its SteamOS devices, including the Steam Machine and potentially future Steam Decks.
This rumor is based on the discovery of an FSR 4 library integrated into Proton Experimental, the compatibility layer that allows Windows games to run on Linux. The goal is reportedly to enable FSR 3-compatible games to automatically benefit from FSR 4 improvements without requiring developer intervention.
The benefit for Valve is twofold: improving the image quality and performance of its machines, and offering these improvements on a large scale via SteamOS, without having to wait for each studio to update its games.
In short, the idea is to make FSR 4 a major asset of the SteamOS ecosystem in order to automatically improve the graphics performance of thousands of games, especially on Valve’s future hardware.
