Valheim Meets Zelda: Wind Waker In Glorious New RPG

Valheim and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker collide in this brand new RPG out now.

It may not have gotten the love it initially deserved, but I think it’s fair to say that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is one of the most popular entries in the beloved Nintendo series.

Originally released in 2002 in Japan and then for the West in 2003, I can remember the hate that The Wind Waker was getting. Working at a video game retailer at the time, there were so many customers complaining about its cel-shaded visuals.

However, I think once those grumpy few actually played The Wind Waker, I like to think that their opinions changed quicker than the tide turning in the open sea when sailing the King of Red Lions.

What’s more, fans have been calling for The Wind Waker to get a modern remake on current Nintendo Switch consoles (I know, the Wii U got a remaster), but that is yet to come to fruition.

Sure, you can play The Wind Waker with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass, but I’m not counting that. It’s not a proper remaster, and even if you subscribe to this tier, those who do not own a Switch 2 are locked out from accessing it, but I digress.

As for Valheim, inspired by Norse mythology, initially released in 2021, this is currently one of the most popular MMORPG survival games. And that’s saying something, considering how crowded this genre is right now.

So what is this new RPG that blends both of the games mentioned in this article? The game in question is called Voyagers of Nera, developed and published by Treehouse Games.

“Voyagers of Nera is a cooperative survival-crafting game for up to 10 players set in a vast ocean full of ancient ruins and diverse biomes,” reads the description of the game on Steam.

“Nera is a magical ocean world full of beauty, magic, and danger. You are an Echo, descendants of the long-extinct protectors of this world. It falls to you to sail across the seas, defeat the monstrous creatures of the Deep, and awaken the spirits before they fade away forever.”

Voyagers of Nera has just entered its early access phase of release, and if you purchase it before 30 September 2025, you’ll receive a tidy 20% discount off its full RRP.

At the time of writing, there is no mention of whether Voyagers of Nera will eventually get a console release.
