Following the release of the first installment last January, its sequel, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is set to launch on Switch 2 (and Xbox Series) on June 3.

Before the launch, the press got a hands-on look at this version and shared some never-before-seen gameplay. According to these early impressions, the Switch 2 version is of very high quality and closely resembles the one available on the standard PS5.

Of course, we can see a drop in resolution and some less detailed textures. The main issue lies in the rendering of the characters’ hair, with a blur effect that is sometimes pronounced. This is a recurring problem with Switch 2 ports of blockbusters (such as Resident Evil Requiem).

Otherwise, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth performs extremely well on Nintendo’s console. The frame rate will, of course, be locked at 30 frames per second.
