Layoffs just keep coming, and Amazon has officially announced a new wave of job cuts. A total of 16,000 jobs will be cut worldwide.

In a statement, Beth Galetti, senior vice president of employee experience and technology, said she wanted to accomplish “reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy”. For now, the company has not specified which divisions will be affected.

According to Reuters, the cuts will mainly affect Amazon Web Services, human resources, Prime Video, and sales. The gaming sector is not mentioned, but this remains to be confirmed, especially following the announcement that the MMO New World will be shut down next year.

Last October, Amazon had already laid off around 14,000 people.

It’s definitely a challenging time for those affected. It’s interesting to consider how these job cuts might impact Amazon’s overall strategy and future projects in the gaming sector. Hopefully, the company can rebound and innovate in ways that create new opportunities down the line.
