Last May, Epic Games officially announced the existence of Unreal Engine 6 with a Rocket League demo. This week, the American company shared new information about its engine during the State of Unreal event.
Over the next two years, Unreal Engine 5 and the Unreal Editor for Fortnite will be merged into a single product: Unreal Engine 6. It will be a unified engine designed for the next generation of games. All Unreal Engine features will continue to be supported, and improvements will be made on an ongoing basis.
For Unreal Engine 6, Epic Games will focus on generative AI models such as Claude and Codex. These will help creators bring their content to life while giving them true creative control.
Additionally, Fortnite cosmetics will be the first elements to benefit from the new engine. To achieve this, the core system will be migrated to an open UE6 module. Fortnite outfits will then be usable in our own games, and new ones can be created for games that operate within the battle royale itself.
