Ubisoft Barcelona has laid off employees despite the succesful launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Back in late June, Ubisoft Barcelona announced it was going on strike following the announcement of about 50 job cuts within the company. These layoffs were deemed inevitable, regardless of whether Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was successful or not.

So, despite initial positive pre-order figures for the remake, the Catalan company saw its Assassin’s Creed team dismantled and proceeded with 51 layoffs once the work was completed. Sources describe the layoffs as “premeditated.” An anonymous employee shared their thoughts with the website Insider Gaming.

“These layoffs coincide with the broader context of ongoing workplace issues. This is not an isolated event; it reflects a pattern of constant mistreatment, loss of talent, forced departures resulting from the erosion of workers’ rights, and an increasingly top-down management culture that leaves employees with little voice in decisions affecting their work.”

It should be noted that the ceremony celebrating the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was canceled by the studio. It was replaced by a simple, small reception.
