It was during the promotional campaign for season 2 of Fallout that Todd Howard was interviewed by Eurogamer. The executive producer of the series and creative director at Bethesda Game Studios was asked about several topics.
One question concerned a possible adaptation of The Elder Scrolls into a movie or series. Howard did not confirm anything, but did not rule out the possibility.
“I can neither confirm nor deny a future adaptation of The Elder Scrolls. I think Fallout was in a better position in its genre. But you never know. The impact of the Fallout series on the franchise has been greater than I expected. So it makes you think, โIs there a path forward (for The Elder Scrolls)?โ But there’s nothing at the moment. I’m tempted to say no for at least the next decade.”*
Todd Howard also spoke about generative artificial intelligence, and says he sees it as a tool.
“I see it as a tool. I think creative intentions come first and foremost from human artists. But I think we see it as a tool that can help us get through iterations faster than we usually do ourselves. Not faster in terms of generating elements, but in terms of helping us improve the tools we are constantly working on.”

It’s exciting to hear that the possibility of an Elder Scrolls adaptation is on the table! The rich lore and characters from the series would make for some compelling storytelling. Looking forward to seeing how this develops!
