TimeSplitters fans can now enjoy a brand new remake which brings together each of the three games into one.
While you may not recognise the name now, once upon a time TimeSplitters was one of the best FPS games you could play with your mates.
If you’re a gamer of a certain age, you very likely have a lot of fond memories playing one of the TimeSplitters games on your PlayStation 2, Xbox, or Nintendo GameCube.
While efforts for a modern revival by various publishers over the last few years have not gone down so well, fans have managed to achieve just that with the release of TimeSplitters Rewind.
TimeSplitters Rewind is a fan-made recreation of the three TimeSplitters games, bringing the retro games to PC for the first time. It recently just got a new update (via Retro Dodo), bringing even more content to the game available for you to pick up.
It’s a complete remake from the ground-up, with new graphics, controls, and additional content available for anyone to download for free. To sweeten the deal, it’s also been given the seal of approval by TimeSplitters IP holders Crytek and THQ Nordic, so long as it’s not released for profit.
This also isn’t a traditional remake in the sense that there are three separate games for each one, but rather a single unified executable which captures the spirit of the three games in one.
TimeSplitters Rewind Is A Terrific Throwback For Fans Of The Classic FPS Series
The project’s developers describe it as a “greatest hits” collection, with maps, modes, leagues, challenges, and story content taken from the original trilogy into one complete release.

“By the end of this game’s development, the goal is to have extensive content spanning the three games but our initial launch will focus on a subset of both existing content from the original games and some new content,” reads the description on the TimeSplitters Rewind website.
Over the past ten years, the project has accumulated nearly 200 contributors, ranging from hobbyist developers to people who have worked on AAA games.
It’s available right now in early access, which includes 28 multiplayer maps, 32 challenges, 96 characters, and 41 weapons. You can also play online and offline story mode, access a variety of arcade game modes, and even play with bots if you’re struggling to fill a lobby.
Bear in mind, this is just the early access version, and more content will likely be available as time goes on. For now though, the bare essentials of the mod which comprises content from the three games in the trilogy are there.
Of course, while this is a stonking amount of content to enjoy, you’ll also need to clear quite a bit of space on your computer’s storage.
35 GB of HDD or SSD space is required to install, and the system specifications also require you to have 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 760 to run efficiently. Those are pretty low specs in this economy, so pretty much any PC from the past 10 years should be able to run TimeSplitters Rewind quite well.
You can download TimeSplitters Rewind now from the project’s official website.
