The Witcher 4 will likely not have any expansions

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding The Witcher . The third installment will welcome the Songs of the Past expansion in 2027, a multiplayer title and a remake of the first game are in development, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting The Witcher 4 since its announcement in December 2024.

It’s this fourth game that’s on our minds today, following a statement from Michał Nowakowski, CEO of CD Projekt RED. During the latest call with investors, he was asked about possible future expansions for the upcoming games in the series. Typically, the Polish studio always releases major DLCs for its RPGs. But that might not be the case this time…

Indeed, Nowakowski noted that his teams plan to release three The Witcher games over six years, which will make the task of creating expansions much more difficult.

“As you mentioned in the question, the plans are pretty ambitious. Specifically, it’s to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. It would be difficult, to be very honest, for us to add an expansion to the upcoming trilogy. This is where we are here and now with this particular issue.”

It’s understandable why CD Projekt RED would prefer to focus on full games rather than additional content.

It’s interesting to see the direction The Witcher 4 is taking, especially with all the excitement around the series. The focus on the main story without expansions might bring a more cohesive experience. Looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds!
