The Switch 2 sold over 10 million consoles in just 4 months

Nintendo’s latest quarterly report has revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 has already sold more than 10 million consoles by the end of September, continuing its record-setting status as the fastest selling games console.

Having launched on 5th June, the Switch 2’s sales figures are split between the quarters ending on 30th June and 30th September. In its launch month alone, the Switch 2 raced to 5.82 million units sold, and this was followed by 4.54 million units through the rest of the summer. That puts the total at 10.36 million after four months, far outpacing the 7.8 million record of the PlayStation 5 through its first two quarters, and massively ahead of the original Switch. That console launched in early March 2017 and shipped 4.7 million through its first four months.

And here’s the thing. This 10 million consoles sold? That’s before the launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A last month, which will absolutely have pushed many prospective Pokémon players to upgrade.

Instead, the main highlight games for the Switch 2 are Mario Kart World which, thanks to being a console bundle game, enjoys a near 1:1 sales record at 9.57 million copies, and Donkey Kong Bananza at 3.49 million copies. A pretty good effort from DK, I’d say.
