The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform has officially been revealed, and it is no secret that AI enhancements and features are at the forefront of this system-on-a-chip.
While many of us have been asking âwhyâ in the great AI debate, Qualcomm has been busy proving why with its innovative technology and advancements. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 puts its innovation on full display, boasting the worldâs fastest SoC specifically designed for the âagentic AI era.â This means more performance and less human interference, aiming to bring you devices that just work, with performance levels we have only imagined. President and CEO of Qualcomm Incorporated, Cristiano Amon, said it himself at this yearâs Snapdragon Summit, âWeâre the company who is going to bring AI everywhere.â

AI advancements are at the core of every part of the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The 3rd Gen Qualcomm Oryon CPUâthe fastest mobile CPUâfeatures AI-optimized scheduling offering real-time responsiveness. The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU features 37% faster AI performance with hardware acceleration for matrix math and generative AI. These devices will be faster and capable of running LLMs directly, prioritizing privacy with no need for cloud dependency.
âThe 8-series mobile platform enables truly personalized agentic AI assistants to take user-tailored
actions across apps. Through continuous on-device learning and real-time sensing, multimodal AI models understand the user, enabling proactive recommendations and situation-based prompt enhancementsâwith user data staying on device.â
AI is also implemented with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC in terms of Wi-Fi power and performance. The Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 Mobile Connectivity offers Wi-Fi 7 with integrated AI, offering up to 40% power savings. AI-optimized Wi-Fi also results in up to 50% lower latency for gaming.Â
AI assistants are going to see a major performance boost on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, with improvements to on-device multimodal AI. These devices will be able to better process text, images and voice data together. This should result in AI assistance that can process your information and respond more accurately in real-time.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 comes loaded with the Qualcomm Sensing Hub on-device AI learning features. This is where the agentic AI âallows for more personalized on-device experiences while your favourite everyday apps get faster, smarter, and more power-efficient.â Qualcomm describes it as a shift from reactive to a collaborator, boasting that it can learn, adapt and initiate decisions on your behalf.
Photos and videos are going to see major AI implementations with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC. The SnapdragonâŻ8âŻEliteâŻGenâŻ5 uses a QualcommâŻSpectra Triple AIâISP with AIâbased image processing. This includes Dragon Fusion AI toneâmapping for improved colour and detail, AI exposure fusion for enhanced lowâlight performance, and Night VisionâŻ3.0 for brighter, clearer results in dark scenes.Â
It also implements AI skin and skyâtone adjustments for accurate colour rendering, uses context-aware auto-focus, auto-exposure, and auto-white balance, and supports AI bokeh for background blur in video. The Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec enables nearâlossless capture for greater flexibility in postâproduction.

One thing was clear after listening to Amon at the Snapdragon Summit: Qualcomm is full speed ahead working on the âEcosystem of you,â using AI to bring all of your devices together and working for you with as little human interference as possible. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the closest we have been, and they show no signs of slowing down.
Qualcomm has announced some of the partners who will be implementing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, âhe latest premium offering in the Snapdragon 8 Elite series will be featured in flagship devices from global OEMs and smartphone brands, including Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, POCO, realme, REDMI, RedMagic, ROG, Samsung, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE. New devices will be launched in the coming days.â
