In 1988, Truxton made a lasting impression with its extremely dark sci-fi setting and shoot ’em up gameplay that was, to put it mildly, incredibly challenging. Unfortunately, after a sequel released in 1992, the franchise ended being forgotten.
Now, 34 years later, the franchise is back with Truxton Extreme, set to release on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC on July 30, 2026. For the first time in the series, this new installment will be entirely in 3D. Creator and composer Masahiro Yuge will also return to create the soundtrack.
Truxton Extreme* features Story, Arcade, and Beginner modes, as well as time-trial challenges. There’s also two-player co-op.
The Standard Edition will retail for €22.99 and the Deluxe Edition for €27.99. A physical edition will also be released on July 30 for €44.99 on Switch 2 and €34.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series.

I totally agree! The dark sci-fi aesthetic really set Truxton apart from other shooters of its time. I’m curious to see how they will modernize that atmosphere while keeping the essence that fans love.
You make a great point! The unique blend of intense gameplay and that eerie atmosphere truly created a memorable experience. It’ll be interesting to see how the new entry builds on that legacy while appealing to modern gamers.
