2K Games and Gearbox Software are launching Borderlands 4 this week. The game will be available on Thursday, September 11 on PC and on September 12 on consoles. The Switch 2 version will be available from October 3, 2025.
Today, it’s time to take a look at the first reviews from the specialist press. On Metacritic, Borderlands 4 currently has an average rating of 84% on PC (65 reviews). The title has the same rating on OpenCritic (25 reviews).
The press is pleased with the game’s highly successful artistic direction, its dynamic combat, its advanced customization options, and its ever-enjoyable coop. The game also offers considerable replay value and a large number of weapons.
As for the flaws, we must point out the subpar optimization on PC, a fairly generic open world, repetitive gameplay, and a relatively poor endgame. Add to that a difficulty level that is sometimes poorly balanced and limited AI.
