Despite having just come out on Xbox Series and PC, Replaced has already been involved in a minor controversy on social media. This 2.5D cyberpunk thriller found itself in the crosshairs of internet users due to a slip-up by IGN.
In a quote from its review, IGN noted that Replaced is an “AI-based adventure”. This awkward phrasing led some players to believe that the game had been designed using the much-maligned generative AI. In reality, the title from Sad Cat Studios tells the story of an AI trapped in a human body, and that’s what the quote was referring solely to.
“As we’ve seen, some people misunderstand what IGN means by AI-based. We just want to clarify:
This game was 100% handcrafted. No Generative AI was used to make this. What IGN is referring to is the story that is about AI in an alternative 80s America.”
IGN has subsequently deleted its post on X.
