Sony has released its financial results for the quarter ending March 31, 2026. During those three months, the Japanese company sold 1.5 million PS5s worldwide.
Thus, over the entire fiscal year, 16 million units were sold. Since its launch in November 2020, the console has sold 93.7 million units. Additionally, 125 million monthly active users were recorded (+1% year-over-year). The operating profit forecast for fiscal year 2026 is set at +30%.
Also during this fiscal year, operating profit is up 12% compared to the previous year. Another key point is that in the fourth quarter, 85% of games sold on PS5 and PS4 were digital, compared to 76% in the previous quarter.
Finally, the major downside comes from Bungie. The impairment charge related to the studio behind Destiny and Marathon is estimated at $769 million, including $204 million last year and $565 million this quarter. Suffice it to say that the colossal losses associated with the developer may call its future into question.
