The next Ghost Recon is reportedly in serious trouble and might be canceled

Ubisoft is on the brink of disaster right now. Layoffs continue, two studios have just closed, and teams are being reorganized (particularly on Rainbow Six Siege). As if that weren’t enough, one of the publisher’s major projects is in trouble.

The website Insider Gaming has just reported that Project OVR, the codename for the upcoming Ghost Recon, is in serious trouble. The game reportedly failed to meet its internal goals during its alpha phase. The management team in charge of the project has been reshuffled in an attempt to get things back on track.

If the game is in this state, it is reportedly due to “unrealistic deadlines and poor planning and management”. Ubisoft is said to have rejected alternative production proposals, and some accuse the game’s directors of doing whatever they want.

Furthermore, although the publisher is betting heavily on Project OVR and its foundations are considered “strong”, rumors are beginning to circulate among Ubisoft Paris employees. Some believe the game could be completely overhauled, or even outright canceled in favor of another project if the situation doesn’t improve quickly. Layoffs seem inevitable.
