The Mass Effect TV series writer denies wanting to do a story for non-gamers

Earlier this month, an article published by The Ankler claimed that the Mass Effect series would attempt to [appeal to non-gaming audiences] (https://news.instant-gaming.com/en/articles/18886-amazon-wants-to-rewrite-the-script-of-the-mass-effect-series-to-make-it-appealing-to-non-gamers) by reworking the franchise’s storyline, which caused early fans to react strongly.

In a post on Bluesky, Daniel Casey, the adaptation’s writer and executive producer, expressed his surprise at this report. While he is unable to reveal confidential information about the project, he states that he has no idea where this reference to a “non-gaming” audience came from. Furthermore, he notes that he has never heard of such a goal internally.

“So, I can’t talk about the specifics of what I’m writing (I’ve signed NDAs, etc) — but for whatever it’s worth, that article by the Ankler caught me off guard just as much as you. I don’t know where that ā€œnon-gaming audiencesā€ quote came from or who said it, but at no point has that been said to me.”

It is therefore possible that this rumor is ultimately false.
