This November 19, only PS5 and XBOX Series players will be able to head to Vice City. Indeed, for GTA VI, Rockstar Games has once again prioritized consoles, leaving PC users out in the cold.
This is a common practice for the company, as explained by John Ricchio, a former producer who worked on GTA V, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne 3. Ricchio notes that at the time, Rockstar focused on consoles first because their hardware limitations were well-known, which allowed them to fully optimize a title before turning their attention to a PC version. However, developing a PC version first could cause issues when optimizing the game for less powerful consoles.
Thus, the studio operated this way to manage its resources more efficiently. For example, the PC port of Red Dead Redemption was scrapped once the game was released on PS3 and XBOX 360 so that developers could devote themselves fully to GTA V.
Ricchio admits that this may have changed over time, as consoles have become increasingly similar to PCs. Rockstar isn’t opposed to computers, but simply seeks to manage its resources and development process.
