The International Olympic Committee cancels the Esports Olympic Games in Saudi Arabia

In July 2024, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) proudly announced a partnership with Saudi Arabia with the aim of organizing there the Esports Olympic Games in 2027. At the same time,the two parties formalized a 12-year agreement.

Ultimately, the IOC and Saudi Arabia say they reviewed the case and decided to cancel the partnership. The committee said it intends to develop a new approach to organizing esports competitions.

Β« This approach will better align the Olympic Esports Games with the long-term ambitions of the Olympic Movement and more widely promote the opportunities offered by these Games, with the aim of organizing the first Games as soon as possible. Β»

For its part, the Esports World Cup (EWCF) will return to Saudi Arabia next year from July 6 to August 23, 2026.
