In July 2024, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) proudly announced a partnership with Saudi Arabia with the aim of organizing there the Esports Olympic Games in 2027. At the same time,the two parties formalized a 12-year agreement.
Ultimately, the IOC and Saudi Arabia say they reviewed the case and decided to cancel the partnership. The committee said it intends to develop a new approach to organizing esports competitions.
« This approach will better align the Olympic Esports Games with the long-term ambitions of the Olympic Movement and more widely promote the opportunities offered by these Games, with the aim of organizing the first Games as soon as possible. »
For its part, the Esports World Cup (EWCF) will return to Saudi Arabia next year from July 6 to August 23, 2026.
