The French actress who plays Lara Croft accuses Aspyr of using AI to replace her

In France, voice actress Françoise Cadol lent her voice to Lara Croft until the 2014 game Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. The actress is currently making headlines after sending a formal notice to Aspyr this week.

She accuses the studio of using generative AI to reproduce her voice in the compilation Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered without her consent. In an interview with Le Parisien, Cadol mentioned that fans were the first to notice similarities between the voice used in the original games and that of the remasters.

“Very quickly, buyers of the compilation realized that the voice of Lara Croft, who gives gameplay instructions, was not mine. This caused an uproar within the community.”*

Jonathan Elkaim, the actress’s lawyer, claims that Aspyr misled consumers and disrespected his client. The studio has therefore been informed of the proceedings and a request to withdraw the collection from sale has been made. It is now up to the developer to respond.
